1. Guided note outline on spontaneous generation and biogenesis - complete in partners
- Redi's experiment to disprove spontaneous generation of large organisms
- Pasteur's experiment to disprove spontaneous generation of microorganisms
- Go over as a class and make sure students understand experiments and have correct information in outline
2. Evolution of cells
- Break into five groups and each group becomes an expert on one section
- Write bulleted information on overhead and present topic to rest of class
- Everyone writes down other group's information
3. HW - create a study guide for chapter 14
Wednesday Feb 25th
Mechanisms of Evolution
1. Notes: How Does Evolution Work?
- gene pools and allelic frequencies
- what causes changes in genetic equilibrium (mutation, genetic drift, gene flow, natural selection)
- different ways variants are selected for (explain with graphs and examples)
Virtual Ant Lab
1. Start computer lab
- Lab shows how allelic frequencies change in a population of ants over time depending on the environment they live in
Friday Feb 27th
Mechanisms of Evolution
1. Notes: Evolution of species (speciation)
- how does speciation happen?
- rates of speciation
- patterns of evolution (adaptive radiation, divergent evolution, convergent evolution)
